SIPA's report from the 2002 NAHB International Builder's Show

SIPA made history at the 2002 Builders Show in Atlanta with an impressive industry presence at the SIPA Village exhibit. Members from all over the country converged on Atlanta to set up the high-tech, architectural village scene. To execute a design contributed by New York architect Bill Chaleff of Chaleff and Rogers, the panels were fabricated in Michigan by Insulspan and set up on the exhibit floor in the Atlanta World Congress Center by a team led by Panelwrights of Harpers Ferry, West Virginia. The volunteer effort of the SIPA membership is always an inspiring thing to me, remarked SIPA director Bill Wachtler. Going all the way back to the first project at the 1997 Builders Show when we built the house in the parking lot of the Houston Astrodome. This year’s effort marked a departure from previous shows, though, because the earlier displays had always been a cooperative venture partnership with APA - the Engineered Wood Association, which was great. But this year we decided to go inside and bring in SIPA Manufacturing members under the SIPA Village concept. The response to it was terrific! After the show, the SIPA Village exhibit was taken down and shipped to Premier Building Systems’ Arizona plant, where it will be stored for re-use in coming years at the International Builders’ Show in Las Vegas, Nevada, scheduled for January 21-24, 2003. With the success of this year’s endeavor, three more SIPA members have already said they want to be apart of the 2003 show. Thank you to all those who helped make the 2002 SIPA Village a Success!
